Manufacturer's Description
DC24 All Floors
Ultra-lightweight Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner.
DC24 All Floors is an ultra-lightweight and compact Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner that uses patented Root Cyclone technology for no loss of suction. Weighing in at just 5.4kg, it's Dyson's lightest upright, and includes a compressible wand so you can store it away more easily.
DC24 All Floors also includes patented Ball technology, which allows you to steer with ease around obstacles such as furniture and household appliances. It rides on a ball, so there's no more pushing back and forth to turn corners.

Ball technology to help you steer with ease

Dyson Ball upright vacuum cleaners use patented Ball technology to overcome the steering limitations of fixed wheels. They ride on a ball, which pivots around itself so you can steer with ease, changing direction with just a turn of the wrist. The idea for Ball technology came about from a Dyson engineer studying new ways to steer. It started crudely - an old wand handle attached to a wheel. Eventually the wheel became a ball - and an ideal home for the motor.
The ball itself is made of glass-reinforced polypropylene – the same material used in the manufacture of car dashboards. It combines high impact strength with resistance to distortion. The ball is also where you'll find the motor. By putting the motor inside the ball, at a neutral point, Dyson engineers were able to lower the machine's centre of gravity and improve manoeuvrability even more.

Motorised brush bar for powerful pet hair removal
DC24 All Floors has a motorised brush bar for removing dirt and pet hair that have lodged deep inside carpets. The stiff bristles on the brush bar spin at high speeds - up to 90 times per second – to agitate the carpet pile and dislodge dirt and pet hair so that it can be vacuumed up and removed. Don't worry if you also have hard floors or delicate rugs – the brush bar can be turned off so you can use DC24 All Floors on these surfaces too.
Reversible wand
Despite its compact size, DC24 All Floors has a long reach for cleaning stairs and awkward areas. The wand on DC24 All Floors reverses to reach out-of-the-way spots more easily and with a better grip. There are no awkward components to assemble, and you can also attach tools and accessories to extend your cleaning abilities even further.

Approved for allergy sufferers
Dyson upright and cylinder vacuums are approved by 12 allergy associations worldwide, including the British Allergy Foundation (BAF) and Allergie Suisse. Allergie Suisse approval is one of the most stringent in the world. To secure, it vacuums have to provide constant suction and separation performance so that they don't lose effectiveness while you clean.
No bags to throw away
The bags in ordinary vacuum cleaners clog with dust and dirt, causing a loss of suction. After a while the suction can fall so low you have to replace the bag – and throw the old one away. A lot of vacuum cleaner bags these days are made from a mixture of plastic and paper, which means you can't recycle them. Like a lot of waste, they end up in landfill, where they take years to decompose.
With a Dyson vacuum, you can simply detach the clear bin and empty it onto the compost heap. Biodegradable dust and fluff will be broken down naturally into useful fertiliser. With no bags to replace, you won't be adding to the landfill problem.
No extra costs
Other vacuum cleaners are still designed to need replacement bags and filters – and the cost soon adds up. Over 5 years, you could end up having to spend up to £175. Dyson vacuum cleaners don't need bags and have lifetime washable filters, so there are no extra costs to worry about.
Washable HEPA filter for clean expelled air
DC24 All Floors includes a sealed HEPA (High-Efficiency Particle Air) filter – the same filter used by hospitals – to trap tiny particles as small as 0.1 microns. That’s about the size of a single particle of cigarette smoke. Particles this small include common household allergens such as pollen, mould spores and dust mite faeces.
The air expelled by DC24 All Floors contains up to 150 times less mould and bacteria than the air you breathe. And because the filter is washable you won’t need to replace it. Just give it a rinse once a month with cold water.
5 year parts and labour guarantee
You'd be amazed at some of the tests Dyson carry out on their machines to make sure they're as tough and reliable as possible. During development, a push/pull rig moves Dyson vacuum cleaners a minimum of 4,452,651 feet. The hose is kinked 7,280 times. The bin is opened 1,560 times. Upright vacuum cleaners undergo 207 different validation tests, cylinders 235. That's why Dyson are so confident in their machines they guarantee all their uprights and cylinders for 5 years – parts and labour.
Which? Best buy
DC24 All Floors has been given a Which? Best Buy Award. A team of experts tested everything, including: dirt pick up, pet hair removal, noise and dust retention.
Root Cyclone technology for no loss of suction. |
Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing, trying to find new ways to make their technology work better. As they work, they file patent applications to protect their inventions from copycat manufacturers. That's why the only place you'll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.
Root Cyclone technology for no loss of suction
Ordinary vacuum cleaners rely on bags and filters to trap dust and dirt. Air is meant to flow through tiny holes, leaving dust and dirt behind. The problem is that when you use them, these tiny holes quickly clog up with particles of dust. This chokes the flow of air, so the vacuum cleaner loses suction.
Dyson vacuum cleaners don't rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. They use patented Root Cyclone technology, which spins the air at high incredibly high speeds. The cyclones inside a Dyson vacuum cleaner generate centrifugal forces many thousands of times the force of gravity. Dust, dirt and pet hair are flung out of the airflow and straight into the clear bin. No bags, no loss of suction.

The ulitimate Hoovering machine !![]()
I've floor-tested this machine on tiles, wood and carpet for about 6 months now and I'm very impressed with it's usability, design and cleaning results.
First impressions once out of the box were that is was smaller than anticipated (if you have a large house you may be better off with the DC25) and the design was a bit "busy". However, once I found the quick start booklet, I was up and running within 2 minutes.
It really is brilliantly designed with lots of nice touches. The track is narrow but this means it gets into places that no Hoover has ever been before, and as it picks up first time, cleaning time is greatly reduced. The ball design works well and it turns quicker than Michael Owen (the Liverpool years). The suction unit and brushes are very far forward so it picks-up right at the front, again a good time-saver. It has a button to switch off the brushes when on hard floors. The collector is not huge but emptying is a doddle - just don't press that red button BEFORE you're over a bin (like I did). Pull out the handle, turn it round and click it into place and there's your suction arm. No spider is safe with this machine in action. If James Bond did the vacuuming, he'd use one of these. It only comes with one tool end which cleverly switches between nozzle and brush but the brush is too easily pushed back in for my liking.
The "main" booklet is a few pages long and mostly pretty pictures but they explain everything well, particularly when it comes to filter cleaning. Removing the filter from the ball is a bit fiddly the first time but ok once you know what you're doing. Note - the instructions say that the filters should be cleaned every month, and not every 3-6 months as stated in the amazon product description. I don't have a dog or cat so can't comment on how well it picks up pet hairs, it may be worth checking other models and reviews for that.
What I like:
Brilliant design and build - everything clicks solidly into place
Cleans quickly and effectively
Very light - easily carried up the stairs one-handed
5 year guarantee
Compact and space saving (particularly with the handle depressed)
Looks the nuts
Niggles:
Flex could be a couple of metres longer
Tool not so clever, and it doesn't come with a crevice tool as standard. I'd recommend the Dyson Soft Dusting Brush
Removing the ball filter for cleaning is a bit tricky (make sure the vac is laid right back first)
Discrepancy about the filter cleaning times, but ultimately I guess it depends on how often you use it and where
This is my first Dyson as I've previously been a bit put off by the price and size but this is compact and not too expensive on here. It's a Grand Design in your kitchen cupboard :o)
Piles of power in a tiny package![]()
After our vacuum handle snapped off, my mother went out on a mission to replace it with a budget cleaner. Two weeks later, after purchasing 6 machines and taking them all back, either due to them having no tools, being too heavy or just blocking up, she was pursuaded to pay the significantly larger amount for the DC24. And she has never been more pleased. It's light enough for her to carry up the stairs and across the carpet, especially important due to her RSI, and yet it still packs enough power to leave the carpets like new. The collapsing handle means it can be stored under a shelf in a small cupboard, and the emptying is easier and less messy than the others she had tried - you simply take the sealed clear bin off the cleaner, walk to the outside bin, and press the empty button. Despite the small size of the bin, it gets only half full after cleaning a two bedroomed terraced house. The brushbar is easy to turn off, so previously uncleaned rugs and hard floors are a doddle. The hose may not reach to the top of a staircase, but the machine is so light, you can walk up the stairs carrying it, so it's not a problem. I would recommend this for people with smaller homes, flats, those with joint problems or the growing old, and those with much larger homes may find one with a larger hose/cable more suitable.
Incredible performance for the size![]()
I had never used a Dyson before and my preconception was that they are massively over-priced for a vacuum cleaner. When my cheap cylinder cleaner finally packed-in I looked around for an upright that was compact but effective and this new DC24 model just caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a chance, though it was about £50 more than my budget. The Amazon deal was the best one I could find. When it arrived the next day I was shocked by how compact it really is. The performance is phenomenal though - it pulls up vastly more dust than my cylinder did and the motorized brush bar is a great advantage. The thing that strikes you most though is how well thought out the whole design is - the little features like converting the handle to a cleaning wand and the ease of emptying the bin are what really makes the cost justifiable. Buy one, you won't regret it!
